Chester schools returned to in-person learning when classes resumed after Christmas break.
The Chester Board of Education voted Dec. 17 to go to in-person learning when classes resume Jan. 5. School was in full session Jan. 5-8, although several students were sent home Jan. 7 after developing illnesses.

The modified 12:50 pm dismissal time schedule will be used.

“We plan to have students in attendance five days per week on weeks without holidays or teacher institutes,” said Principal Missy Meyer.

Mrs. Meyer said the remote-only option is available to all students.

“If your student has been successful with remote learning and you would like him or her to start the 3rd quarter via remote learning, please contact the school office immediately to let them know,” Mrs. Meyer said.

To arrange remote learning, email Mrs. Meyer at [email protected] or by calling 618-826-2302.

“We will continue to take all precautions necessary to reduce health risks for staff and students by requiring all to wear a mask, use hand sanitizer and keep their classroom area clean. Additionally, the high school will have face shields to offer students at no cost. If your student would like to use a face shield in addition to his or her mask, please have them tell their 1st hour teacher on Tuesday, January 5, so that we can get them distributed accordingly,” Mrs. Meyer said.
The school was on remote learning from Nov. 12 until Dec. 11. In-person learning was resumed for the week before Christmas break, but students with no D or F grades were not required to attend. Mrs. Meyer said the goal was to focus on helping struggling students, and the plan was successful. At the start of the week, students had 289 Fs, but that number was reduced to 108 by Dec. 17.

The school also has Chromebooks available if a student is in need. Parents and students will first need to fill out the agreement to borrow technology. Call the office to arrange for pickup.
