Even in the midst of a chaotic school year affected by Covid, the CHS Dance Team has resiliently persisted.

This year’s dance competitions were pre-recorded and submitted to be judged virtually. The team has worked diligently to record for the IHSA and IDTA dance competitions, and their work has paid off. The team finished 2nd in A Jazz at IDTA for the Feb. 27 competition. The team was just 3.72 points away from a state-qualifying score.

At IHSA, the team finished 7th in the 1A category, trailing behind the 6th place team by 2.14 points. The top 6 placing teams qualify for state. Even though the team didn’t qualify for state in either competition, their scoring is still remarkable considering the circumstances. Due to complications and Covid restrictions, the team had a mere three and a half weeks to learn and practice the routine.

Senior dancer Juliette Abernathy and Junior dancer Kylie Fortner made the All-Star Dance team and will be doing a virtual routine with the group. This is a huge accomplishment for the girls and the team is very proud of them. Overall, the dance team is making the most of the season, and hopefully, there will be more to come.
