Santa made an appearance at the Chester-Sparta basketball game Dec. 21, and the Yellow Jackets gifted their fans with two Cahokia Conference wins to start Christmas break.

Chester saw an early lead against Sparta disappear in the first half, but still led by one at halftime. The Jackets controlled the second half and beat the Bulldogs 56-39.

Chance Mott led Chester with 18 points and Jared Landeros scored 17 points. Cooper Eggemeyer, Ethan Stumpe and Trace Fricke notched seven points each. Lucas Thompson scored six points and Gavin Schroeder five.

On Dec. 21, Chester won its second straight conference game with a 55-44 win over Okawville.

Jared Landeros led Chester with 24 points. Gavin Schroeder was also in double figures with 12 points. Trace Fricke scored six points. Chance Mott and Ethan Stumpe tallied six points each. Cooper Eggemeyer scored four points and Aiden Jany one.

Chester opened play in the Duster Thomas tournament at Pinckneyville with a 47-28 loss to Mt. Carmel.  Schroeder led Chester with nine points. Fricke scored five points and Landeros four points. Stumpe, Thompson, Evan Bland and Mott and Jacob Handel scored two points each.

In the consolation bracket, Chester defeated Woodlawn 46-36 to set up a Dec. 29 game against Salem. However,  Chester was forced to forfeit both the Salem game and the 11th place game against Greenville.
