Jackets’ Rally Falls Short In Overtime Regional Loss

Chester lost to Wesclin 64-49 on Feb. 15.

Chester’s defense fueled a fourth-quarter comeback, but the Yellow Jackets’ season ended Feb. 19 with a 43-41 overtime loss to Red Bud in the opening round of the Du Quoin Regional.

Trailing 33-26 after three quarters, Chester held the Musketeers to four points in the fourth quarter to knot the game 37-37 after regulation. However, Red Bud won the overtime period.

Senior Jared Landeros led Chester with 18 points in his final game. Fellow senior Cooper Eggemeyer was also in double figures with ten points. The two seniors accounted for eight of Chester’s 11 points during the fourth-quarter rally. Devante Palacio scored five points. Kolton Jany and Chance Mott tallied three points each. Trace Fricke netted two points.

Chester High School recognized seniors in boys’ basketball, cheerleading, dance and band prior to the Chester-Wesclin game Feb. 15.

The Yellow Jackets had its three-game winning streak in the 64-49 loss to Wesclin.

Seniors honored Feb. 15 were Jared Landeros, Cooper Eggemeyer, Ethan Stumpe and Aiden Jany, boys basketball; cheerleaders Hannah Blechle and Alex Hennrich; and dance team members Kylie Fortner and Maria Nickle.
