Chester Rallies For Road Win At Okawville

The Chester Yellow Jackets improved to 4-2 in conference play with a come-from-behind 14-9 road win at Okawville April 26.

Trailing 9-8, Chester plated six runs in the seventh inning. Matt James closed the game with three scoreless innings for the win. He struck out seven.

Chance Mott had four hits to lead Chester’s potent attack. Mott also drove in two runs, stole two bases and scored four runs. Ethan Stumpe had a double, single and two RBIs.

James had two doubles. Gage Hasemeyer had a double and drove in two runs. Trace Fricke hit a double and drove in two runs. Evan Bland had a double and an RBI. Dylan Kelkhoff had a single and a stolen base. Brendan Baughman stole a base and scored two runs.

Chester defeated Carlyle 10-0 on April 19.

Matt James tossed a one-hit shutout, fanning eight Indian batters.

The Jackets erupted for four runs in the third and fourth innings to break the game open.

Ethan Stumpe had two hits and three RBIs. Evan Bland had two hits and an RBI and Gage Hasemeyer had two hits. Chance Mott had a hit and three RBIs. Dylan Kelkhoff had a hit and an RBI. Kaden Freytag and Trace Fricke each had a hit and a stolen base.

Chester posted a 14-6 win over Valmeyer on April 23.

Kelkhoff hit two homes and a single, driving in four runs. Mott also had three RBIs with a double, two singles and two stolen bases. Evan Bland had three hits and two stolen bases. Fricke had two hits and three RBIs. James had two hits. Hasemeyer had a single and an RBI. Freytag drove in a run. Stumpe drove in three runs.

Chester lost to New Athens 8-0 on April 22.

Chester lost to Red Bud 5-0 on April 28.

Hasemeyer and Jesse Heath had two heats each. Stumpe and Aiden Blechle also had hits. Mott had a walk and two stolen bases. Blechle took the loss, giving up only one earned run while striking out five.

Trace Fricke had a hit and a stolen base in the win over Carlyle.
