GSA Members Attend Summit

Ace Smith, Associate Editor

GSA (Gender Sexuality Alliance) has big plans for the upcoming year. They will be discussing the SIUC GSA Summit that occured on Sept. 10 in their upcoming meeting. New GSA supervisor, Miss Hodge, says, “This year, we would like to expand our mission to also include working with the local and national community in acts of service and activism.”

The club itself, according to Hodge, is “a much-needed safe space for LGBQTIA+ students while working to destigmatize the gay community. Often, queer folks are seen as “other,” when in reality we are as “normal” as anyone else. Through our involvement with non-GSA community activities and volunteer opportunities, we hope to be an example for a future where all people are working together to make the world a better place. It’s not just about gender and sexuality inclusivity, but inclusivity and cooperation between people in all walks of life.”

In closing thoughts on GSA, she states, “You don’t have to be gay to join GSA! Our doors are open to all folks, whether you are queer, questioning, or an ally.” If you would like more information on how to get involved, see Miss Hodge.
The GSA meets after school every other Thursday in Mrs. Hodge’s room.
