Poetry Competition Coming To Chester

Poetry Competition Coming To Chester

Julia Nicole Venus, Sting Reporter

Do you like poetry, specifically writing it?
Then the Poetry Out Loud competition may be for you! Poetry Out Loud is a national program that encourages students to learn about poetry and develop public speaking skills. The first step to entering is to visit the Poetry Out Loud website. The links to sign up and select a poem are posted in the Writer’s circle Google classroom, run by Ms. Hodge. Once on the website, you must select a poem that you want to memorize. The initial competition will be held at Chester High School with whomever in the school signed up. The competition then progresses onto regionals, state, and possibly nationals.
State winners will receive a $200 cash prize, a $500 cach stipend for Chester high school to purchase more poetry materials, and an opportunity to compete for the title of national champion in Washington D.C.
Contact Ms. Hodge if you’re interested and get practicing.
