It was a cold rainy night a W.O. Smith Field, but there was no stopping the Yellow Jackets, who beat Christopher 41-6.

Chester won the toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff. The first play from scrimmage was a high snap over the head of the Jackets senior quarterback Nick Meyer. The Bearcats looked strong of defense to start the game forcing the Yellow Jackets to punt the ball on their opening drive. It did not take long for the Jackets defense to get the offense the ball back. On the first play of the drive Meyer completed a 43 yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Keith Kiner III. The Bearcats yet again were stopped on offense. The punt was partially blocked by the Yellow Jackets setting up their offense with great field position. With 2:39 left in the first quarter the Jackets handed the ball off to junior Ethan Bert for what looked like a touchdown. The play was called back on a holding penalty and the offense fumbled on the next play.  The Jackets then got tough on defense. CZR running back, Jason Cole was stopped by senior lineman Chase Colvis by a massive tackle, stopping him for a two-yard loss. On the second play from scrimmage, CZR’s running back was once again stopped emphatically by the CHS defense and a fumble was recovered by senior defensive back Erik Cowell. With just 13 seconds left in the first quarter, Drake Bollman ran the ball across the goal line to give the Jackets a 12-0 lead. The Jackets began another scoring drive at the 11-minute mark in the second quarter. A first down run by Bollman moved the chains for the Yellow Jackets. Followed by a 2 yard run by Tristan Hobeck, an incomplete pass, and a Bearcats sack the Jackets offense faced a 4th and 18. The play looked very bleak when Meyer had to scramble and hit Kiner III on a checkdown pass. Kiner III turned the short pass to a long gainer when he ran the ball to the 8-yard line, setting up a first and goal. It was first-and-goal at the 8-yard line. Bollman ran for one yard making it 2nd and goal. On the next play, Meyer finished the job himself and ran a quarterback keeper for a 7-yard touchdown. Ethan Rayburn scored the two-point conversion and the Jackets led, 20-0.

The Jackets kicked to CZR and Caleb Davis returned it to the Cat’s 41-yard line. On the next play, the Bearcats fumbled and Chester’s Ethan Bert recovered the ball with 7:45 left in the first half. The offensive drive 9-yard carry by Bollman. Followed with a carry that resulted in no gain. Bollman then had a huge run for a 1st-and-10. The ball was now on the 3-yard line. Cowell then pounded the ball into the end zone for yet another 3-yard touchdown. Eathan Thompson scored on the two-point conversion to extend the Jackets lead to, 28-0. On the pursuing kickoff, the Bearcats fumbled again and it was recovered by the Yellow Jackets. The Jackets had a good drive going with a pass to Kiner III, a run by Ethan Rayburn, and a Bollman one-yard rush. A false start penalty gave the offense a 1st and 6 with a little over 2 minutes remaining in the half. CZR started with the ball to begin the second half. They had the ball just 43-seconds because the defense held the Cats to 4-and-out who turned the ball over on downs. The Jackets offense took over and scored on the first play from scrimmage on a fantastic 64-yard touchdown pass from Meyer to Kiner III. The Jackets extended their lead to 34-0. On the kickoff the Bearcats were called for unsportsmanlike conduct. A 15-yard penalty was accessed. Chester was also called for illegal procedure. CZR ended up with the ball on the 20-yard line. CZR’s Bryce connected with Gabriel Motsinger for a 45-yard completion, but Cowell was there to end the advancement. With eight and a half minutes remaining in the third quarter the Bearcats continued with a nice drive, but penalties for holding, and a false start slowed the drive and forced CZR to punt. The Yellow Jackets next drive began with a five-yard penalty for false start. Chester faced a 1 and 15  Bert opened things up with a huge run. A CZR personal foul added another 15 yards to Chester’s yardage with under six minutes left in the third. Chester was then called for holding on Bollman run. With 4:08 remaining, Meyer found Hobeck for a 33-yard touchdown pass and the Jackets added more insurance points leading, 41-0. The Jackets defense once again stepped up and on the ensuing kickoff forced another Bearcat fumble. Thompson recovered the loose ball and Chester took over at 2:38. The Jackets turned the ball over on downs and CZR couldn’t capitalize as time ran out to end the third quarter.
