ACES Assembling For Competition

Lily Koch, Associate Editor

With the return of in-school learning full time, many clubs are able to begin meeting again. One such club is the Academic Challenge Event, also known as ACES.
ACES is a competitive test-taking club. Each student who participates has been nominated by one or more teachers to test in a select category. Each student then proceeds to test for two subjects, with those on the varsity team having more pressure, due to the fact that their scores influence whether or not the team advances. Individuals who place 1st or 2nd advance to the next round, then if the team’s scores are high enough, all 14 varsity team members will advance as a team. This year generated a large interest in this club, so those who do not compete on varsity will compete as at-large competitors or Junior Varsity, and potentially advancing if they place 1st or 2nd.
Varsity members this year are Seniors Amelia Shemoinic, Alison Venus, Ariel Throop, Kennedy Herrell, Lily Koch, Matt Renfroe, Melody Colonel, Peyton Clendenin, William Sorto, and Daigen Hunter; and Juniors Cami Schroeder, Emma Bryant, and Madison Kribs. At-Large competitors this year are Seniors Jarrett James and Katie Shinabargar; and Juniors Alyssa Seymor, Anna Childs, Lilith Lochhead, and Odyssey Flores. The Junior Varsity consists of one student, sophomore Andrew Partin.
