Is The Suicide Squad really worth watching after its awfully reviewed prequel, Suicide Squad? We can all agree that the 2016 Suicide Squad wasn’t the best. It has an rightful rating of 26% on Rotten Tomatoes and ranks first in Rolling Stone Magazine’s Worst Movies of 2016. The Suicide Squad movie came out August 4, 2021 with actors like John Cena, Margot Robbie, and Idris Elba. The director of this new movie is James Gunn. His most noteworthy movies are Avengers: Endgame, Guardians of the Galaxy and Dawn of The Dead.
In the movie, the Suicide Squad is a team assembled from villains who are in prison. They are awarded time off their sentence for working for the U.S government and going on dangerous missions. The Suicide Squad team consists of Harley Quinn, Shark King, Bloodsport, Ratcatcher, Peacemaker, Rick Flag, and Polka Dot Man. The movie goes over some background of certain characters and personally, I think the insertion of the character’s background was a bit messy. Of course you need some background to really get to know the characters, but you can’t really insert it wherever and hope for the best. Harley Quinn appeared in this movie and the original suicide squad. The redesign of her character was really nice and was pulled off well. She definitely is better portrayed in this sequel.
In the movie, the Suicide Squad is sent to an island that’s been overthrown by it’s military. Their goal is to destroy Jötunheim, the tower that holds project starfish. The team learns that the information they were fed by their captain was a lie and certain characters turn on each other. They then have to fight project starfish and turn back on their villainous ways to save the island.
In conclusion, the movie was really good and it shows as it has a 91% on rotten tomatoes. It’s a little iffy in spots when it comes to insertion of background stories but overall still really good. I rate the movie 8.5 stars out of ten. The Suicide Squad is ten times better than its predecessor so it’s definitely worth a watch!
